We went on a bear hunt ...

and we weren't scared!

Today the Mighty Minions did lots of activities about our trip to the Botanical Gardens for our Teddy Bear's Picnic. We created and innovated a lot of different bear art and treasures.

Lets see what the Mighty Minions had to say about our day:

TEDDIES IN A BLANKET BISCUITS :

Making our teddy biscuits was yummy and exciting- Timoti

POLAR BEAR CUP PUPPETS:

BEAR RICE CAKES:

These teddy rice cakes are delicious- wow!- Brooklyn

"WE'RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT" WALL DISPLAY:
Look at our amazing display! We used different textures and paints to recreate the story "We're going on a bear hunt".
We added our cup puppets to the display as well.

For the long wavy grass we added shredded paper, for the cold river we added blue feathers and ripples, for the oozy mud we added brown feathers and different brown swirls. The forest is made out of leaves, feathers and shredded paper. Finally the swirling whirling snowstorm has cotton balls and blue ribbons added in patterns and shapes by the children. Miss Longstaff created the narrow gloomy cave.

All the children created different patterns based on the theme for the display. Well done Minions, Miss Longstaff is very proud of your amazing effort.

COCONUT BEARS AND TEDDY ART- on its way to completion.
We covered our polar bears in coconut shavings, tomorrow we will add the eyes.

This is the start of our painted bears. We will be adding adjectives to describe our bears tomorrow.

Mighty Minion Treasure Hunt
We found a clue
On Wednesday we got to go on a treasure hunt around our school.
There were lots of clues hidden by a pirate, they said we had to find the pirate to find the treasure.
It was lots of fun.
We were all so excited to go on the treasure hunt.

-Cassius and Helen

"There were lots of different clues, we had to visit
the Magnificent Monkeys for one"
"The pirate was actually Miss Longstaff- or Captain Longstaff
as she said- we were surprised" - Kuini and Chelsie

After we had found the pirate and the treasure, we were trying to guess what might be in the treasure chest.

our guesses included:
  • lollies
  • coins
  • money
  • gold
  • jewellery

Were we right?

"The treasure chest was filled with jewellery and maps and a spy scope"- James

We all really enjoyed our treasure hunt, let's wait and see what Captain Longstaff has in store next . . .

Our Treasure!

This year our school topic is Taonga/treasure.

Look at the awesome things we have been doing to make, create and find treasure

"We really liked painting our treasure chest like a rainbow."

Look at our amazing class treasure box we are decorating. We painted it rainbow colours.
Next week we will finish decorating our treasure box and begin filling it with our treasures.

We decided as a class that we think treasure is:

"Mighty Minion is our class mascot and he is treasure."

Please continue to watch as we discover new forms of treasure and share them with you

Welcome to Mighty Minion Mania

Welcome to the Mighty Minions of room 7!

We have been very busy this past few weeks designing our brand name and coming up with our secret handshake, chant and minion art.

We decided on the name the Mighty Minions because it means using our  'habits of mind' particularly 'Wow' and 'That's Funny' in our everyday lives. Minions look at the world with a sense of wonder whilst also having a sense of humour.

Look at the wonderful pictures below to see what we have been getting up to:

"Making our minion art was really cool!"

"I like being a Mighty Minion"

Keep coming back to visit and see what other wonderful things the Mighty Minions will be doing this term
